What we Believe

THE STATEMENT OF FAITH
of Mount Zion Baptist Church

The foundations of what we practice and teach is always in
agreement with these basic yet profound biblical realities of faith.

The Scriptures
The Bible is inspired by God—authoritative, infallible and inerrant
(without mixture of error). It is the supreme authority in all matters of
faith and practice.

God
There is one everlasting God, existing in three persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, fully God and fully man. Jesus lived a sinless life,
died on the cross for our sin, was resurrected, and has ascende
d to heaven.

Humanity
Originally mankind was born in fellowship with God. Through the fall of Adam
and Eve all humanity became sinful and separated from God and His heaven.

Salvation
The only way to live in fellowship with God is by faith in Jesus Christ alone apart from
any good works. At the moment of faith our sin is removed through regeneration by
the Holy Spirit, resulting in our becoming a child of God and in possessing eternal life.

The Christian Life
The Holy Spirit indwells the believer sealing him or her to eternal life,
enabling the believer to glorify the Father by living a holy life and to
witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Church
All believers are united by the Holy Spirit to the Body of Christ, the
church. Christians should commit to fellowship with one another by
joining and ministering through a local church.

The Future
Jesus Christ will return to earth to reign as King and Lord. Everyone will
be resurrected—the saved to everlasting life and the unsaved to everlasting torment.

The Ordinances

Baptism
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

Lord’s Supper
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
